Suited by a rise in distance and the addition of blinkers, promising three-year-old Hattori Hanzo was impressive breaking his maiden at Sale on Tuesday.
Having just his fourth start, the well related son of Sebring was nicely rated by Noel Callow, travelling well back in the field before making his run out wide from well before the turn.
Looming up ominously at the turn after swinging widest into the straight, Hattori Hanzo rounded up his rivals before drawing clear to win by a soft 1 3/4 lengths.
"He was a little flat-footed at the start," Callow reported, "but to his credit he relaxed really well and that won him the race."
"He won really well," he continued, adding that "when I asked him for his effort he quickened nicely."
A $185,000 graduate of the 2014 Inglis Easter Yearling Sale, Hattori Hanzo is the sixth winner produced by the Marauding mare Steal My Love.
Served last spring by Stratum, Steal My Love is also dam of the Group Three winner Amorino and the metropolitan winners Take Heart and Perfect Fit (Hong Kong). Her dam is the stakes placed Storm Bird mare Stormy Exchange, also dam of the AJC Oaks heroine Danendri, grandam of the VRC Oaks winner Faint Perfume.
