Chicago Pounces

Dec 19, 2015

An aggressive ride by Jake Bayliss saw the talented Downtown Chicago back into form at Yarra Valley on Friday, the four-year-old closer to the pace than usual - and it did the trick!

"We decided to drive him out of the barriers into the first four from the good gate and have him ready to attack from the 600m," Bayliss said, noting that "it takes a lot of work to get the best out of him as he is a lazy bugger!"

"But he really put his best foot forward today and showed us the ability he has."

Ready to pounce on the turn, Downtown Chicago found the line well to record the second success of his nine start career.

A NZ$80,000 purchase from the 2013 New Zealand Ready To Run Sale, Downtown Chicago is a son of the French Group One winner Thewayyouare and the city placed Encosta de Lago mare Baby Gangster.

Raced by Dr Corinne Smith, Trond Smith, Graeme Ferguson, Noeline Ross, Steve & K Patten, Trevor Eastwood, S Young, Richard Gardiner & Lisa Gardiner, Hotel California (manager Greg Fagan) and Mongrel (manager Peter Matthews), Downtown Chicago hails from the same branch as the prolific Mumtaz Mahal family as Eight Carat and Epsom Derby/Prix de l'Arc de Triomphe hero Golden Horn.
