Making His Mark

A rise in weight proved no hindrance for St Mark as he appreciated a drop in class at Sale on Friday, the tough seven-year-old doing a great job recording the fifth success of his 42 start career.

Nicely rated by Noel Callow, the bay was always travelling well midfield, looming up at the turn before racing away to win by an easy 2 1/4 lengths.

Out of the winner's circle since June 2013 when successful at Sandown, St Mark has nevertheless been thereabouts and it was a deserved win for his patient owner Dr John Harman.

A New Zealand bred son of Redoute's Choice stallion Coats Choice, St Mark was a NZ$42,000 yearling at the 2010 Karaka Festival Sale. He is out of the stakes placed six times winning Hadaad mare Cruella.

Cruella has paired well with Coats Choice, this mating also producing the metropolitan winners Hassle Free and Stand Your Ground.
