A Princely Performance

Not always the easiest horse to ride, Vienna Prince was perfectly steered by Noel Callow at Mornington on Tuesday - breaking through for his first win since he claimed his maiden last spring.

Well placed in a 1500m BM64 contest, Vienna Prince enjoyed a nice trail just off the pace, joining in at the turn and finding the line late.

"He tried to turn it up on me," Callow said, "but he got the job done!"

"Mick said that he is pretty one paced and the plan was to sit outside the leader but they went strongly enough so I just popped in and wound him up early."

It was a relief to see Vienna Prince's nose in front where it counted, the four-year-old at times not as tough to the line as he could be - "he has run a lot of placings," Callow noted, laughing at his own reputation for being strong in a finish.

"Callow will get them home, that's why I end up on these sorts of horses!"

Raced by Dr Soong Chua, Dr Shane Blackmore, Dr James Canty, Dr Daniel Goldbloom, Tom Addison, Dr Brian Litherland, Dr Andrew Simm, Dr Gerald Quan, Jeremy Bostock and Dr Anthony Barnes, Vienna Prince is a son of Snitzel and the More Than Ready mare Come Away With Me from the family of outstanding stallion Storm Bird.
