Season Wrap-Up

Aug 10, 2015

As we usher in the new racing season we will take a quick look at the one that was 2014/15 and thank our supporters and congratulate our winners!

Highlights of the season included a number of wins for Michael Kent Junior - who has just embarked on a big adventure spending a year at Newmarket with renowned trainer William Haggas - as a rider on the picnic circuit and as a trainer.

Big Baba Looey, who won races at Yarra Valley and Geelong, is a particular favourite having been bred by Michael's uncle Rod Kent.

Epingle and Scratchy Bottom, both raced by long time stable client Rick Jamieson of Gilgai Farm, enhanced their value last season with stakes victories.

Scratchy Bottom won the Gr.3 Epona Stakes whilst Epingle won the Gr.3 Chairman's Handicap - retired to stud on a high note having been placed in Group races at her final three outings.

It was that stellar form that sees Epingle nominated for the Cranbourne Horse Of The Year award which will be announced next Saturday night at the Cranbourne Racing Industry Awards Night.

Also in great form last season were the talented gallopers Varboss (winner of three in a row at Sandown and Moonee Valley), Good Value (successful at Caulfield last winter and close to another success having been third at that same track just a couple of weeks ago), San Padre (debut winner who went on to finish sixth in the VRC Derby), Solsay and Consorting (both successful in 955m Moonee Valley dashes), Holy Cow (winner of two in a row at Moonee Valley), You Think So (staying wins at Flemington and Bendigo), Special Miss (three metropolitan victories this year) and Written (wins at Moonee Valley and Flemington).

We have plenty to look forward to in the spring and next autumn with the likes of Oncidium Ruler (who went close in the Listed Galilee Final at only his third start) and Supido (brilliant last start winner over 1100m at Flemington in mid-July) showing plenty of promise as do several of our unraced and lightly raced three-year-olds.

And we also cheered on wins for Little Hottie, Umatilla Girl, Porte Cochere, Downtown Chicago, Firetruck, Vienna Prince, Real Mad, Chemistry, Berganza, Hennybodys, Madog, Iron Spider, Yalu, Golden Twist, Bayanova, Ahhhh, Black Velveteen and King Henry.
