Three In A Row For Varboss

Feb 26, 2015

Exciting galloper Varboss continued on his winning way at Sandown on Wednesday, the handsome chestnut defying a tardy start and the pattern of the day when racing clear along the rails to win by a length with plenty in hand.

Not deterred by topweight of 60kg, Varboss won his third race in a row having been just as impressive saluting at Moonee Valley and Sandown in recent weeks.

Stepping up to 1800m for the first time, the son of Street Boss was always travelling well for Luke Nolen with whom he has formed an excellent winning partnership.

"When he drew the inside gate I was keen to have him ridden quietly," said Michael Kent just home from a trip to Aspen with his family, "and I didn't think that being hard on the fence was going to be any disadvantage."

"They give it to you here, you know they are going to drift off at the turn and you are going to get a run."

Unsure of immediate plans for Varboss - whether to keep going or give him a freshen - Kent has been delighted with his form this time in, confident that there is more to come.

"He is a progressive horse who will get more ground," he said.

Noting that "Mick has done a fantastic job with him," Luke Nolen was taken with the style of Varboss'  victory.

"He carried a big weight and was up in grade again - he just continues to race well."
