All The Way for Special Miss
Feb 22, 2015
Whilst Michael Kent enjoys a well earned family break the stable continues on its winning ways and at Moonee Valley on Friday night we were represented by a double - both of our runners for the evening finding the line well.
The first of our winners was the gutsy mare Special Miss who was deserving of her all the way victory having not had much luck when a close up fifth at Flemington at her previous outing.
Doing a bit of early work from an outside gate, Special Miss got to the lead at the 1600m and from there travelled sweetly for apprentice Jake Bayliss - getting clear approaching the turn and maintaining an easy lead right to the line, saluting by a soft 2 1/4 lengths.
In doing so she recorded the seventh win of her 31 start career and it was her second success for us with her earlier victories coming in New South Wales.
Raced by the Cahill family, Special Miss has amassed over $130,000 in stakes and she looks set to continue on her winning way with stable representative Anna Skinner noting that "she is a very genuine mare - she always tries her hardest."
Jake Bayliss, awarded TVN's ride of the night for his performance, was always happy during the running - "I just let her roll and she really kicked at the turn."
Bayliss noted that walking the track played a big part in the win - "Michael Kent is one of the best track walkers around and he has taught me well... I could see that the going was great on the rails."
A daughter of Darci Brahma, Special Miss is out of the stakes winning Centaine mare Wyndam Special, granddaughter of the dual stakes winning sprinter Nouvelle Star.
Thanks to Grant Courtney for the winning photo.
