A Real Winner

Dec 15, 2014

It was a well deserved break through for Real Mad at Werribee on Sunday, the consistent four-year-old so game in the placings at each of his previous three starts.

Sent out a short priced favourite, the chestnut jumped straight to the front and was well rated by our apprentice Ben Thompson.

Responding well when pressured from before the turn, Real Mad just kept finding and close to home was getting clear of his rivals – his 1½ length winning margin a soft one.

Thompson was delighted to record his first win for the stable, and all the happier that it was for long time clients John Olle and Karin MacNab.

“It is a big thrill to win for them,” he said.

Always happy in running, Thompson was confident of a win a long way from  home but did report that Real Mad is still on the upward spiral.

“He is still pretty green and new to racing,” he said.

Real Mad is a home-bred for Olle and MacNab out of their Scenic mare Bella Rippa. Her dam Mighty Minx has been very good to the stable producing our multiple city winners Countcool and Cameo Minx.

At her last two seasons at stud producing colts by Street Boss, Bella Rippa is closely related to the Group One mare Episode whose exciting daughter First Seal won this year’s Flight Stakes.
