A bold ride by our apprentice Jake Bayliss saw Fire Truck return to easy winning form at Seymour on Tuesday, the six-year-old recording his first success since last spring.
Sparingly raced since that time, the son of Encosta de Lago has always shown middle distance and staying potential and Jake was able to make Tuesday's 2000m event a test of stamina.
Putting pressure on the leader King Taros - coincidentally ridden by his brother Regan - Jake was hot on the heels of that horse from the 600m and with 400m to go was a length in front.
And all the further in front half way down the straight, kicking clear to win by a soft two lengths.
"I was more than happy to sit outside the leader," Jake reported, "and the race worked out well. He was able to put them behind him quite nicely."
The winner of three of his 23 starts, Fire Truck was bred by long time stable client Rick Jamieson. He is the first foal produced by the imported Fantastic Light mare Jollity, a daughter of the French stakes winner Massaraat from the family of legendary mare Miesque.
