Spider Shows Bite

Jun 14, 2014

On several occasions down the Moe straight on Saturday Spiderbite looked beaten.

Making the pace for apprentice Jake Bayliss, the two-year-old was strongly challenged from the turn by Meet Harry who got at least on terms.

But Spiderbite was not to be denied, fighting strongly all the way home and the closer to the line she got the better she went – actually drawing clear late to win by half a length.

A filly who has always shown ability, Spiderbite has not always had the best of luck, striking heavy going which she has not relished.

"She has always shown great pace," Michael Kent said, adding that "she will probably spell now and we will wait for the Moonee Valley night season for her."

A daughter of Darley’s Street Hero, the cleverly named Spiderbite is out of the Rancho Ruler mare Black Widow.

Spiderbite is the fifth winner for that three times winner who is also dam of the metropolitan winner Palio Princess.

Like that Sandown winner, Spiderbite is a home-bred for long-time clients John & Geraldine Olle who race the bay with Nick Brennan.
