Saturday Class beckons for McNulty
May 16, 2014
Backing up after a great run – in which he was only narrowly defeated by the promising Word Of Mouth after engaging in a two horse war down the Seymour straight a week ago – McNulty was able to record his first metropolitan victory at Sandown on Wednesday.
Ridden for the first time by Harry Coffey, the tough four-year-old enjoyed a good run just behind the leaders although did lose his position when the field shuffled up approaching the turn.
He was soon into the clear however and was able to record a pretty easy victory – his ¾ length margin a soft one.
“We backed him up to take advantage of the good weather,” Michael Kent said, “as he is just not as his best on the wet.”
And Sandown suits.
“He loves long straights and spacious tracks.”
A son of Refuse To Bend who has taken a while to come to hand, McNulty is “a more solid horse this time in, he is maturing and I think he can get to Saturday class this campaign.”
Whilst his victory came over 2100m, McNulty has shown good form over even longer trips – including a VRC St Leger second over 2800m last year.
Congratulations to McNulty’s owners Dr Greg Anderson, Thomas Lyons, Matthew Goldsworthy, Nathan Schroder, M Rockefeller, James Saker, Jackson Davis, Steven Kennedy, Gary Cochrane and Gavin Becker.
