As Smooth As Silk

May 12, 2014

What great form the talented mare Silk And Diamonds has been in of late – and she was thoroughly deserving of her first metropolitan win last weekend.

Storming home out wide to claim the Recycle Handicap, Silk And Diamonds provided jockey Jackie Beriman with a memorable milestone.

“It was very exciting to get my first Flemington winner!” she enthused.

And it was exciting for Silk And Diamonds’ connections too and what a ride the four-year-old has given them – in 13 starts only twice out of the placings and never once out of the first five.

“She has always been consistent,” Michael Kent said, “and she is still improving.”

Likely to head to the paddock for a spell, Silk And Diamonds is described by Kent as “a tough little thing.”

Kent is thrilled that Silk And Diamonds has won just short of $100,000 for her connections – having always considered her a bargain buy.

Purchased for $25,000 at the Inglis Melbourne Premier Yearling Sale, she is by Hard Spun out of a half –sister to the Horse Of The Year Research.

“She was a nice type but just going to need a bit of time,” he said.

Congratulations to Silk And Diamond’s happy owners J P Crichton, Joe Cetraro, Jennifer Cortez, Grant Cortez, Andrew Savage, Yvonne Savage, Brendan Santamaria,  Lois Cortez, Ruth Daff, Mark Grisold, Diane Taylor, N G Rich, S N Ellis, Ross Taylor and Gazal Thoroughbreds Pty Ltd.
