Taking On The Boys
Apr 30, 2014
Really catching the eye with a fast-finishing third in last weekend’s Group One Australasian Oaks at Morphettville, Sebring filly Scratchy Bottom has pulled up very well and is ready to take on the boys in this Saturday’s $500,000 Group One South Australian Derby.
Michael Kent was in Adelaide during the week to supervise track work, noting that “I just wanted to have a look at her and see how she got through the run so I came over and we gave her a canter.”
“She looks well and has eaten up so there was no reason not to pay up.”
The only filly in the 16-strong field, Scratchy Bottom has drawn barrier one with Dom Tourneur to take the ride.
A promising winner of two of her first six starts, the Rick Jamieson owned Scratchy Bottom is attempting to become the second Derby winner for Sebring whose son Criterion was so strong winning the Sydney version of the Classic a few weeks ago.
Hailing from a family whose members have covered the distance, Scratchy Bottom is a granddaughter of the three times stakes winning stayer Lady Of Persia. Her dam Tants meanwhile won the Group Three Lingfield Oaks Trial.
