Group One for Marianne?
Apr 04, 2014
Always confident that classy filly Marianne would be at her best over a bit of ground, Michael Kent is looking forward to seeing her step up to 2000m in Saturday’s Group One Vinery Stud Stakes at Rosehill.
Drawn nicely in barrier four for regular rider Craig Williams, the daughter of Darci Brahma was impressive winning the Listed Alexandra Stakes at Moonee Valley on March 21 and she has pleased us with her progress since.
“She is still improving,” Kent said, adding that “she will find the 2000m more to her liking.”
“She has been running on strongly in the shorter races and over 2000m she can take a sit and finish strongly.”
Describing Marianne as a “very genuine” filly, Kent is confident that she “can be right in the mix of things.”
Missing a placing only once in her eight starts to date (fifth at Listed level at debut), Marianne has already amassed just short of $270,000 in stakes and is chasing a $240,000 first prize on Saturday.
Best of luck to Marianne’s owners Bill Slatter and Don & Sally Baertschiger. And also to the connections of our other weekend runners including Consorting and Written who head to Flemington on Saturday.
