A mare who has always shown ability – but who has not always had the best of luck – Bikini Dancer was a deserved maiden winner at Kyneton on Saturday.
Kicking off the new month in good style for the stable, Bikini Dancer was second up in the 1850m event having found 1500m a touch short when a first up third in a small field at Cranbourne a couple of weeks ago.
Travelling sweetly along the rails behind the leader for James Winks, Bikini Dancer looked to be in a bit of trouble as the front runner kicked at the turn – but she really knuckled down to her task.
Claiming the lead at the 50m, Bikini Dancer was drawing clear over the final stages, her 1¼ length victory a soft one.
Breaking through at her seventh start, Bikini Dancer is a nice staying type in the making and congratulations go to her patient owners Errol Campbell, Peter Campbell, Shannon Campbell, Barry Lonsdale, Andrew Mccahon, Rachel Mccahon, Matthew Amos, Marilyn Lonsdale, Michelle Lonsdale and Mountson (manager Dr Norman Sonenberg).
A NZ$55,000 Ready To Run Sale purchase by Darley’s multiple Group One winning shuttler Bernardini, Bikini Dancer is a daughter of the dual stakes winner Post Thyme.
She hails from an historic Australian family whose members include the big race winners Storm Queen, Stormy Passage, Arlunya, New Gleam, Western Pago, Dodge, Tenor, Dark Eclipse and W.S Cox Plate champ Taj Rossi.
