"A Super Mare!"
Dec 27, 2013
We are running out of superlatives to describe Danestroem who just keeps stepping up – since joining the stable earlier in the year winning six of her nine starts for us.
And she has been particularly outstanding this time in – first up in early November winning under the steadier of 60kg at Kyneton, second up in early December saluting in easy fashion at Caulfield and on Boxing Day returning to that same track to win her third in a row.
“She just keeps developing, maturing and progressing,” said a delighted Michael Kent who has been happy to see Danestroem learn how to settle behind others after having been a leader last time in.
“She is taking a sit now and finishing off well,” he said, adding that the four-year-old may back up at Flemington on New Year’s Day before a freshen-up in preparation for a late summer/early autumn campaign.
“There are a couple of nice stakes races around and I’d love to see her get some black type to her name – I think she is up to it.”
Katelyn Mallyon – enjoying the second leg of a winning Caulfield double – had been watching Danestroem and had been keen to ride her.
“She’s a super mare,” she enthused.
“I saw her last start and she won so well that I thought that with her 53kg today she’d have them covered.”
Which she did, saluting by a soft ¾ length in determined fashion – sitting behind the leaders, ambling up to them at the turn and getting clear after hitting the lead 200m out.
Congratulations to Danestroem’s proud owners led by breeder Kerry Selleck who races the daughter of Elvstroem with Lee Selleck, Brian Lawrence, Peter Etheredge, Dominic Chila and Francis Ambrosino.
