One of the best days enjoyed by the stable this year was at Balnarring on Saturday - a picnic maiden certainly not our biggest success but one of our most satisfying ones!

For the horse - Big Baba Looey - is a rather special one, bred and raced by Michael's brother Rod, ridden by his son Michael and strapped by his sister Jacqui!

So it was quite the family affair and whilst a very proud Rod was not able to be present, he was cheering on heartily from Hong Kong where he works as a Hong Kong Jockey Club teacher of apprentices and stablehands.

And he will be in town for Christmas - looking forward to heading to Drouin on Boxing Day, hoping for a Big Baba Looey double.

Michael Junior, who has been in great form at the picnics this season, was thrilled to win on his Uncle's horse and was always confident of winning the 1200m event.

"He controlled the race throughout," he said, feeling most content as Big Baba Louey raced away to salute by a soft 2½ lengths.

A son of the late Keltrice and the two times Brisbane winner Tabasco Girl, Big Baba Looey was having his first start since September. He showed ability in five runs at TAB level but did not always have the best of luck.
