A Third Ballarat Cup?
Nov 20, 2013
The stable is looking forward to Sunday’s Ballarat Cup with three nominations in the $200,000 Listed feature – a race which we won in 2010 with My Bentley and again in 2011 with Domesky.
All three of our Ballarat contenders – Backbone, Epingle and You Think So – boast outstanding recent form lines
Kept fresh since defeating subsequent Gr.3 Hotham Handicap winner Ruscello over 2000m at Caulfield in mid-October, Backbone – a stakes winner over 2400m, will appreciate the step up in distance on Sunday.
Always aimed at the Ballarat Cup, Backbone is part owned by Ballarat Turf Club committee member Sean Duke who told The Courier that he is excited about having a runner.
“It will be a massive thrill – fantastic,” he enthused, adding that “everyone dreams of winning their home Cup.”
Epingle, raced by Black Caviar’s breeder Rick Jamieson, was game in defeat when second to the in-form Sertorius in last weekend’s Gr.2 Sandown Classic.
A model of consistency, the daughter of Pins has finished outside the first four only three times in her 21 start career.
Also honest is You Think So who really caught the eye when resuming with a fast-finishing fourth in the Kyneton Cup over 2000m – and he boasts consistent second up form.
We now have a satellite stable at Ballarat. Managed by Rebecca Gribble, it enables us to make use of their terrific straight, uphill training track.
