Cadel Triomphent!

Oct 12, 2013

At no stage during the running of the 1600m maiden at Cranbourne on Friday night did it look like Cadel Triomphe was a realistic winning chance - that is until the very final stages of the race!

Settling well back in the field of ten, Cadel Triomphe edged closer before the turn but after swinging wide was spotting the leaders several lengths upon straightening.

As he began to make his run caller Terry Bailey thought it was too late - "Cadel Triomphe finishing on when it is all over" but the exciting gelding had other plans and over the final 50m he absolutely flew!

Charging home to steal victory in the shadows of the post, Cadel Triomphe was green but brilliant - a just reward for his owners Mark Casey, Janine Casey, Douglas Mclennan, Michael Kent, Sean Duke, Andrew Wade and Jana Kadlckova who have waited some time for his debut.

A NZ$120,000 NZ Ready To Run purchase at two, Cadel Triomphe is a son of the Goodwood Handicap winning Danehill stallion Keeper and the Sir Tristram mare Libra Belle, a half-sister to the dual Gr.1 winner Wonder Dancer and 3/4 sister to the seven times Group winner Tri Belle from the prolific New Zealand "Belle" family.
