Link To A Legend

Jun 15, 2013

Having run such a great race with little luck at his Sale debut late last month, it was no surprise that Stay Ahead had so many supporters at Seymour on Saturday - the promising three-year-old sent out an odds-on favourite in the 1209m maiden.

And he did not let his supporters down, the bay travelling nicely for Michael Walker and in the run home racing away to win by a soft 2¼ lengths.

NZ60,000 Karaka purchase for his owners Lucky Racing (manager Robert Ng), Stay Ahead is a son of the multiple Group winning sprinter Iffraaj out of the Zabeel mare Dazzling Walk.

Bred on a 3 X 4 cross of the great Nureyev, Stay Ahead is a half-brother to the New Zealand based Group One placegetter Blinding and his grandam is the Group One Goodwood Handicap winner Boardwalk Angel.

Dam of another Group One sprinter in Coogee Walk, Boardwalk Angel hails from a prolific black type family - one that has also produced the big race winners Crawl and Cheyne Walk.

Stay Ahead boasts a nice connection with the greatest of all Australasian thoroughbreds, his eighth dam Raphis being a full sister to the legendary Phar Lap.

Meanwhile we offer condolences to the connections of talented galloper Tenno who was sadly put down after breaking down at Moonee Valley.
