Mick secures day one sale topper

Michael Kent was beaming after purchasing his favourite colt at Oaklands on Sunday – the opening day’s sale topping $250,000 Teofilo – San Cristobel colt (www.inglis.com.au/sales/horse/403-43/ ) offered by Tyreel Stud.
“There is a lot of Fastnet Rock about him,” he said of the bay whose dam broke two milestones for her sire – being his first winner enroute to producing his first winner (the Sandown debut winner Donna Madiera) as a broodmare sire.
“He is a cracking colt,” Kent said. “I paid more than I wanted but I just loved him, he is a real Sires’ Produce type horse. I can’t afford Fastnet Rocks so I looked at yearlings out of his daughters.”
Tyreel’s Scott Holcombe was extremely happy that Kent was the winning bidder – “we are delighted,” he enthused – “he will suit him down to the ground.”
Holcombe was not surprised that Tyreel’s colt sold so well.
“He is a gem,” he said, “an absolutely smashing colt and a horse with a super nature. He was flat-out, the busiest horse in our draft – every good judge was on him but he coped with it all really well.”
“He was a lovely foal,” he recalled, “and he just kept getting better.”
He too sees the resemblance to Fastnet Rock, noting that it was the same with Donna Madiera – “both she and this colt have the Fastnet Rock head,” he said.
