We Think he is good!
Dec 22, 2012
In-form galloper You Think So took a step closer to black type success with a gutsy performance at Flemington on Saturday.
Taking an early lead for Adam McCabe, the handsome chestnut travelled beautifully for the duration of the Bitalli Handicap and at the turn had his rivals off the bit.
But as we know the Flemington straight is a long one and You Think So – who was dropping back from 3000m to 2500m – had to dig deep when challenged late, and that is just what he did.
“You could see in the run that he had his ears pricked, travelling well,” Michael Kent said – “but when they got to him he pinned them right back.”
McCabe was impressed – “he settled a treat,” he enthused, “and he cranked it up at the right time.”
“It is a pretty long straight here and you don’t want to go the early crow but he quickened at the right time and then he fought – it was a good win.”
A horse who still has a bit of maturing to do, the son of Golan however has come a long way in recent months and is in great form at present – winning four of his last five starts including three in a row.
Next stop, the Listed 2800m Bagot Handicap at Flemington on New Year’s Day – a race the stable is hoping to quinella with recent Werribee Cup winner Unusual Suspect also heading that way.
Described by Kent as “a progressive stayer,” You Think So is raced by Derek Murray, the Miss Judmar Racing Syndicate, John Corr, Peter Fitzgerald, Peter Henley, the Mongrel Syndicate, John O'Brien, the Rosswood Syndicate, John Seward and Ed Woods and what a great early Christmas present he gave them!
