Serene - is a Star!

Oct 14, 2012

The stable continued its winning run at Caulfield on Saturday, talented mare Serene Star increasing her future broodmare value with a barnstorming victory in the Listed Northwood Plume Stakes.

Settling towards the rear in a 16-horse field, the six-year-old was behind a wall of horses coming to the turn - getting clear at the 250m and charging home to put half a length on her well credetialled rivals.

"She's a beauty!" Michael Kent enthused, "she got the split late and just went whoosh!"

“I was pretty confident at the 600m mark," he added, "because she was really travelling."

Craig Williams was also taken with the style of Serene Star's gutsy victory.

“How can you take anything away from how determined she was?!” he said.

Bred by long time stable client Janet Francis and raced by Mick Kent and stable supervisor Barry Barnes, Serene Star boasts an excellent strike rate winning seven of her 12 starts to date.

And hopefully there is more to come with several options coming up for the daughter of Western Verse including stakes races next weekend at Caulfield and at Flemington during Melbourne Cup week.
