RED JEWEL GIRL breaks maiden
Feb 13, 2019
It was certainly a deserved victory for Red Jewel Girl at Kyneton on Tuesday, the consistent mare having been so game in the lead up with six consecutive placings since she began her campaign at Moe back in late November last year.
Whilst many would consider such a run frustrating, Red Jewel Girl's patient owners were enjoying her honest performances - though they were happier still to be rewarded for their perseverance by her half length breakthrough over 1469m.
Sent out an odds-on favourite, Red Jewel Girl did look to be a class above her rivals and from barrier four was ridden by Luke Nolen as though she was the best in horse in the race, never far off the leaders.
Hitting the lead turning, Red Jewel Girl dug deep as she wore the front runner down and whilst the margin was not a massive one, she looked to have plenty in hand as she increased her prize money tally to beyond $44,000.
Which is not at all a bad return on the $1000 Red Jewel Girl cost as a yearling - yes, you read that right! Quite the bargain considering her pedigree, the gutsy chestnut being a daughter of the Red Giant and the winning Postponed mare Dolce Bella whose dam is the Gr.2 winner Boulevardofdreams, also dam of the Listed winner Saigon Tea.
