Two In A Row For Lucy
Jul 15, 2018
Owner Karin MacNab may have been a very long way from Sale when her home-bred pride and joy Miss Pandanus ("Lucy") won at Sale on Thursday but she was doing her best to tune in from a ship sailing amongst the islands of Svolver in Norway.
The vision was on the shaky side but Karin could see enough to notice how well the promising chestnut won the BM70 event - getting back off a tardy start and looking to be under a bit of pressure early in the straight before gamely responding to the urgings of the in-form Craig Williams.
Charging over the final stages, Miss Pandanus put her nose out where it counted to win her second race from as many starts - doing a great job stepping straight up from maiden class.
"It was quite a step up so she did a good job," Michael Kent reported, "especially as they did not go quite as hard as we'd hoped."
Kent is confident that the best is still to come for the three-year-old who "has just taken a little while to grow and develop... and she will continue to do so."
"Going around to the gates she gave me a lovely feel," Craig Williams said, though admitting that there was a brief moment of concern during the race - "she felt gone around the turn but once she straightened and balanced she responded really well and delivered that acceleration she has."
There are some nice city races coming up for Miss Pandanus (who Karin races with close friend Lynette Humble) whose half-siblings Countcool and Cameo Minx were successful at metropolitan level.
