Abbey On Track For Big Spring
Aug 19, 2017
It was great to see Abbey Marie in form with a most encouraging return to the track in Saturday's Gr.2 P.B Lawrence Stakes, the talented five-year-old finding the line well to finish 5 1/2 lengths off Hartnell and just 2 1/2 lengths off the runner-up.
Doing her best work over the very final stages, Abbey Marie recorded an impressive final split of 11.95 seconds with the only other horse to break 12 seconds (11.86) being the high class winner Hartnell.
"It was a good effort as they did not go out terribly hard," a pleased Michael Kent said.
Kent has been very happy with Abbey Marie's progress this time in, for once the mare enjoying a trouble free preparation.
"The physio goes over her every Tuesday and every week he has just written 'ok' on the board."
Jockey Luke Nolen, who was aboard Abbey Marie when she recorded her memorable fast finishing victory in last year's Group One Australasian Oaks, was as happy as Kent with the run.
"She began really well, probably a bit too well," he reported.
"But she came back under me and was nice and casual. When I asked her to quicken she went through the line nicely, I was with very happy with the run and she is going to improve a lot from that, she is going well."
