Royal Order Flies!

It has been an interesting week for Michael Kent Jnr whilst his father has been enjoying a well earned holiday in the United States, taking over the stable reins and working hard!

But the rewards have been coming, Kent happy to be overseeing Royal Order's Flemington challenge on Saturday - and delighted when the promising three-year-old was able to break through for his first city win at just his fourth start.

"Dad is off to the Belmont Stakes tomorrow and I am rapt to get the job done for him here today," he said.

Whilst happy to see Royal Order ridden so patiently by Jake Bayliss, Kent thought as the field passed his viewing position in the mounting yard that the horse was running at best for around fourth.

For at that stage the bay, who had drawn a tricky outside gate, was still a long way off the leaders having swung widest into the straight at the rear.

But over that final 50m Royal Order really picked up, charging to the line in a style of a classy horse.

"His staying prowess really kicked in over the final stages," Kent said and Bayliss agreed.

"I also thought at the 200m that he was going to run a nice fourth but he finds that extra bit when youneed it."

Bayliss is clearly excited by Royal Order... "he just keeps surprising me," he enthused.

"He is still raw and dumb but he has got a stack of ability. And the more he races the better he is going to get."

A half-brother to the stable's stakes placed Oncidium Ruler by Commands, Royal Order is raced by a large and happy group led by his breeders Nigel and Meredith Berry.
