A Special Name
Jun 28, 2016
A horse who has always shown plenty of natural ability, Albion Road has not taken long to hit his straps this time in - at Moe on Saturday recording an easy victory at only his second run back from a spell.
Getting back from a tricky gate, the son of Street Boss hooked out wide from the 1000m, improving to be second turning - wearing down the leader before racing clear by 1 1/4 lengths under Jamie Mott's hands and heels riding.
Doing a great job under the steadier of 60kg - conceding a hefty six kilos to the runner up - Albion Road recorded the second success of a six start career.
Raced by long time stable clients John Olle and Karin MacNab, Albion Road showed ability from the start with Michael Kent suggesting he be given a name of importance.
And so after giving it plenty of thought, Karin named him Albion Road after the street in which her migrant parents purchased land to build their first family home, a home financed by proceeds of her mother's engagement ring being sold.
A home-bred for his owners, Albion Road is a son of the placed Scenic mare Bella Rippa, a sister-in-blood to the dual Gr.1 winner Episode, dam of the Flight Stakes winner First Seal.
Also dam of stable winners Realist and Real Mad, Bella Rippa is a half-sister to another two of our favourites, the multiple city winners Countcool and Cameo Minx.
